Striker Emmanuel Riviere has passed a medical at Newcastle ahead of his move from Monaco, Sky sources understand.

The Magpies have already picked up four new signings during a busy summer and the France U21 player has edged closer to a deal, believed to be worth around £6m.

Spanish striker Ayoze Perez, former Sunderland midfielder Jack Colback, Dutch international Siem de Jong and France midfielder Remy Cabella have all arrived at St James' Park ahead of the new season.

Newcastle owner Mike Ashley has funds available to reshape the squad after Arsenal agreed to pay £10m for full-back Mathieu Debuchy.

De Jong played in an advanced role and scored in the 2-1 defeat to League One Oldham on Tuesday, and Newcastle boss Alan Pardew has suggested the midfielder could do so on a regular basis if required.

Riviere's capture would begin to address that particular issue, although it would be unlikely to end the Magpies' search for reinforcements with Lyon's Alexandre Lacazette among a series of other potential targets.

Riviere made 30 appearances for Monaco last season, scoring 10 goals, and could be joined by another new Newcastle recruit Daryl Janmaat, who is close to completing a move from Feyenoord.
