Brighton & Hove Albion have announced Casper Ankergren, Bruno and Inigo Calderon have each signed new one-year contracts with the club.

New Albion manager Sami Hypia has backed the experienced trio to help with Brighton’s push for promotion into the Premier League.

After evaluating his squad, the former Liverpool defender – who was sacked by Bayer Leverkusen in April – identified re-signing Ankergren, Bruno and Calderon as a priority.

"Casper, Bruno and Inigo have been important members of the squad in recent years, and I am pleased they have agreed terms with club for another year,” he said.

"They're experienced heads with a lot of games between them, they know the Championship well and they give us continuity within the squad.

"I had a limited knowledge of all three, but Nathan Jones has given me some sound input on the entire squad - including the three of them.

"Having had a chance to review a number of DVDs from last season, I can see their qualities and I am sure they'll continue to be key for us in the season ahead."

Ankergren, 34, has made 75 appearances since joining the club in 2010 after previous spells at Leeds United and Brondby and Koge in his native Denmark.

Defender Bruno, 33, is entering his third season with Albion after arriving from Valencia on a free transfer, making a total of 64 appearances for the Seagulls and scoring two goals in the process.

Inigo Calderon – the club’s longest-serving player – has scored 15 goals since joining in January 2010 after playing for Alaves and Alicante in his native Spain.

All three players have resumed training and are expected to take part in Brighton’s pre-season curtain-raiser at Lewes on Saturday.
