Chelsea boss hails players after 4-2 win over Reading

Roberto Di Matteo expressed his delight at coming through a tough test after seeing his Chelsea side beat Reading 4-2 at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday. Frank Lampard's opener was cancelled out by Pavel Pogrebnyak and Danny Guthrie then fired the Royals in front before half-time. It looked like an upset might be on the cards but Gary Cahill equalised and late goals from Fernando Torres and Branislav Ivanovic sealed Chelsea's comeback. Di Matteo was again impressed with the performances of his new signings like Eden Hazard, and felt his team deserved their victory. "It was a very entertaining game for the supporters. I was very pleased with how we started but then we lost a bit of our composure," he told Sky Sports. "In the second half we wanted to keep them under pressure and we did so. We had to take a bit of a risk but we managed to get the goals and win the game."

Pressure

Asked if he was worried early in the second half, Di Matteo said: "I thought we were good for a goal because we were keeping them under pressure and creating chances, although you are never 100 per cent sure. "The new signings have certainly impressed, and also the players we already had here." "I am very pleased with the performance tonight." Di Matteo was full of praise for Reading, though, admitting that the newly-promoted side presented a stern challenge. He said: "They were very tough opponents. We expected them to be tough, and I had said to the players after watching Southampton on Sunday against Manchester City that newly-promoted teams have all the spirit and enthusiasm from coming back up, and they made it very hard for us."
