McCoist shock at Scotland snub

Boss thinks Rangers have better players than some in the national squad

Ally McCoist does not understand Craig Levein's decision to overlook Rangers players for the friendly against Australia. Lee Wallace has been left out of the Scotland squad for the fixture at Easter Road on 15th August seemingly because the full-back is now playing in the Third Division. Levein has explained his decision but McCoist still thinks there will be better players in his Rangers squad than in the national setup. McCoist said in the Daily Record: "I feel sorry for the Scotland fans more than anyone else. The fact Lee's now in the Third Division shouldn't close the international door on him.

No criticism

"I would argue we'll have a better quality of player here at Murray Park than some of the boys in the Scotland squad. "Don't rule my players out just because they're in the Third Division." But McCoist does not want to be seen to be directly complaining about the work of Scotland boss Levein. The Rangers manager said: "I'm not going to criticise Craig because he's got a hard job to do. "He picks the squad and sees who the best squad is. But if you're asking me if I think Lee's good enough to play for Scotland then my answer is yes."
