Striker training with Wigan to keep himself fit

Emile Heskey has returned to Wigan to train with their youngsters but manager Roberto Martinez says he will not be pursuing a deal for the striker. The 34-year-old is a free agent after being released from Aston Villa when his contract ran out earlier in the summer. Heskey has since been linked with a number of clubs, including reuniting with his old boss Steve Bruce at Hull City, and has returned to Wigan while he considers his options. He is helping out the youngsters and keeping himself fit, with Martinez happy to welcome him back with open arms. However, the Spaniard insists that does not mean Heskey will be signing a permanent deal. "Emile has had a tremendous history with Wigan," said Martinez. "But I don't think there will be any more pages to be written in that particular book.

Welcome

"Emile asked to come in to keep himself fit, and we've all obviously got some great memories of his time with Wigan Athletic. "He is always welcome at our football club, and his presence will be great for the youngsters as part of their learning curve. "Any session where you get the opportunity to work with someone like Emile Heskey is something that every one of our players should be taking advantage of. "Emile is always welcome at Christopher Park, he can stay for as long as he likes."
