Leverkusen forward understands club's decision to reject bid

Andre Schurrle admits he would have been interested in a move to Chelsea, but understands why Bayer Leverkusen rejected an offer. Leverkusen confirmed earlier this month that a bid from Chelsea had been turned down, with reports claiming the European champions had offered in excess of £16million for Schurrle. The Germany international only joined Leverkusen from Mainz last year, but would have been tempted by a move to the Premier League. "I don't think you would find any player in the Bundesliga who would say that they would not at all be interested," the forward told Kicker magazine.

Too important

"Chelsea would have been very interesting for me. You don't get a chance like that very often in your life. "(Director of sport) Rudi Voller has explained the reasoning to me several times. "They could not find a suitable replacement and I am too important to Bayer." Chelsea were reported to have raised their initial bid to €25million (£19.5m) and Schurrle is disappointed that such figures were being mentioned in public. "I can imagine the fans will see me with different eyes now," he said. "If I play two or three bad games, then it could be difficult for me."
