The Football Association of Wales has confirmed that Swansea City full-back Angel Rangel is ineligible for selection by national coach Chris Coleman.

Coleman unable to consider call-up for Swans full-back

The Football Association of Wales has confirmed that Swansea City full-back Angel Rangel is ineligible for selection by national coach Chris Coleman. Coleman had been keen to add the 29-year-old to his plans ahead of a 2014 World Cup qualifying campaign. The Spain-born defender has completed five years of residency in Wales, having signed for Swansea from Terrassa in June 2007. An FAW spokesman has, however, revealed that he cannot be considered by Wales under the terms of an agreement the four home nations lodged with FIFA in 2009, and updated in 2010. The agreement contains no clause on residency, meaning the only four ways a player can represent one of the home nations is through their place of birth, their parents' place of birth, their grandparents' place of birth or having spent five years of compulsory education in the country they wish to play for.
