Bolton Wanderers manager Owen Coyle has confirmed Andy Lonergan is a potential transfer target after Leeds United rejected a bid for the goalkeeper.
Sky Sports revealed earlier this month that Bolton have lined up a move for Lonergan to provide competition for Adam Bogdan following the Jussi Jaaskelainen's departure to West Ham United.
Lonergan, who signed a three-year contract with Leeds last summer, is expected to leave Elland Road following the capture of Paddy Kenny from Queens Park Rangers.
Coyle said in the
Bolton News: "There are a number of goalkeepers that have been in the frame, and Andy is one that has been mentioned.
"He's a goalkeeper I've known about for many years and he played against my Burnley team for Preston in a season that he was probably the outstanding keeper in the whole Championship.
"There was a lot of interest from Everton at the time, I'm led to believe, so I know all about him but there are three or four others out there at the moment, so we'll see what the next couple of weeks bring."
Lonergan made 38 appearances for Leeds last season after joining from Preston North End and Whites boss Neil Warnock confirmed a rival Championship club had made a bid that has been rejected.
Warnock told the club's
official website: "We have an offer from a Championship club for Andy Lonergan, but it wasn't what we would call acceptable."
