United's new signing pledges to prove his worth

Nick Powell has promised to fulfil his potential, and repay the faith shown in him by Sir Alex Ferguson, after being unveiled as Manchester United's new no.25. The 18-year-old, who has moved to Old Trafford from Crewe, has been challenged by his manager to prove himself in training ahead of the new season and earn a place in midfield. The England under 18 international will join the first team squad, and travel to South Africa and China on the first leg of the pre-season tour which starts next week. And he says he's getting used to the big change after swapping Crewe for Old Trafford.

Whole world

"At Crewe, it was one camera and one person," he joked, "at United, it's the whole world. "At Carrington, even with the building work around it, it is a complete change from Crewe. I thought Crewe's facilities were respectable but, to see this, it's a completely different world for me." Powell has impressed United over a long period, with Sir Alex Ferguson taking advice from Dario Grady before deciding the time was right to make his move. But Powell agrees with his manager that he still has a lot to learn.
Develop
He said: "I've still got a lot to develop, I'm not near my best yet." "I'm hoping to achieve what people expect me to achieve. "I want to show I am a Manchester United player and show what I can do."
