Paris Saint Germain have emerged as favourites to sign Italian starlet Marco Verratti.
The 19-year-old, labelled the new Andrea Pirlo, has just helped Pescara back to Serie A - but he himself has never played in the top-flight.
Despite having no top-flight experience, he was called into Italy's preliminary squad for Euro 2012 - such is his potential.
Juventus and Napoli have been strongly linked but now PSG have moved to the front of the queue for his signature as reports suggest they are ready to pay £10million for the young midfielder.
Pescara sports director Daniele Delli Carri insisted PSG had not made a bid, but admitted they were talking.
"There is no offer from Paris Saint Germain. There is great interest from their part and we will hear in the coming days," he told
Sky Italia.
Verratti's agent Donato Di Campli told
Gazzetta dello Sport that they had held talks with PSG.
"There was a first meeting with the PSG, it was very good. We spoke with all parties involved, and I can say that the Paris Saint Germain has shown great interest in the player," he said.
"We were very impressed by the stadium, the club's headquarters, and the new image Paris Saint Germain.
"We will take a few days to think about it and we will meet again in the coming days."
