Birmingham City have confirmed that Lee Clark has been appointed as the club's new manager.

Acting chairman impressed by manager's 'zest and ambition'

Birmingham City have confirmed that Lee Clark has been appointed as the club's new manager. Sky Sports sources reported on Monday that the Blues intended to announce the appointment of the former Newcastle and Fulham player as their boss within 24 hours. And the club has now revealed Clark will take the reins at St Andrew's following the exit of Chris Hughton, who left to take the vacant manager's position at Premier League side Norwich City. The 39-year-old carved out an impressive reputation at Huddersfield Town, guiding the club to a 43-game unbeaten run in the league But things turned sour at the Galpharm Stadium and Clark was sacked by the Terriers in February before the club went on to enjoy play-off success under successor Simon Grayson.

Ambition

That has not discouraged Blues acting chairman Peter Pannu, who told the club's official website: "I was impressed by Lee's tenacity, zest and ambition. "He is enthused by the challenge ahead and is determined to make Birmingham City a real force in the npower Championship this season. "Judging from his record at Huddersfield, I know he has the capability to do exactly that. "The shortlist of four, out of the 22 applicants, that we put together means that the appointment of Lee Clark was carefully studied and was a thorough and informed decision by the board. "I now expect the fans to give him their full support."
