Milan look set to miss out on £8million midfielder

AC Milan look set to miss out on signing Lassana Diarra after the player's agent revealed he had received an offer from Russian giants Spartak Moscow. The former Chelsea and Arsenal midfielder is set to leave Real Madrid this summer and Milan had been strongly linked to make a concrete offer for his services. Instead, Diarra could now be heading to the Russian league to join Spartak as former Valencia coach Unai Emery is now in charge and has been a long-term admirer. "It would be difficult for Diarra to play in Italy," said his agent, Claudio Vigorelli. "Lass' has a year left on his contract at Real Madrid and now has an important offer on the table from Spartak Moscow."

Big clubs

Reports suggest the offer from the Russian side is around €10million (£8m) and Milan would not match that for a player who could leave Madrid for free in 12 months' time. Tottenham were also interested in taking the 27-year-old to White Hart Lane when Harry Redknapp was in charge but they never put in a formal offer. Diarra joined Real Madrid in 2008 from Portsmouth but his time at the Bernabeu has not been easy and he has made just 85 appearances in four years. Diarra is refusing to make any commitment on his future and is covering all bases. He is quoted as saying: "I am at Real, a very big club. If I am being linked with other big clubs, that means my talent is still attracting top clubs. "I have not decided anything yet so I can't speak on my future. I still have a contract with Real and I am happy in Spain."
