The 27-year-old enjoyed a productive season in front of goal in 2011/12, as he netted on 12 occasions in all competitions.
That return represents only the second time in his career that he has broken into double figures, but it is the consistency of his displays which has drawn admiring glances from afar.
Fleetwood believe Gillespie would be a useful addition to their ranks, as they prepare to make their League bow.
