Seven players axed from Italy party for Euro 2012

Italy coach Cesare Prandelli has trimmed his provisional Euro 2012 squad down to 25 players ahead of Tuesday's UEFA deadline for submitting the final party. Prandelli has cut seven players from his initial 32-man man line-up but must drop two more before midday on Tuesday, when the squad for the tournament in Poland and Ukraine must be finalised. Zenit St Petersburg left-back Domenico Criscito is among those that will not feature after it was revealed he has been implicated in a match-fixing investigation in Italy. Uncapped midfield youngsters Ezequiel Schelotto and Marco Verratti were also among those dropped from the original list. The others were Palermo goalkeeper Emiliano Viviano, Rubin Kazan defender Salvatore Bocchetti, Cagliari defender Davide Astori and Atalanta midfielder Luca Cigarini. Of the 25 players remaining in Prandelli's squad, only Manchester City striker Mario Balotelli and Paris St Germain duo Salvatore Sirigu and Thiago Motta are currently plying their trade with clubs outside of Italy. The Azzurri have been drawn in Group C of the Euros against holders Spain, Croatia and the Republic of Ireland.

Midfielders: Pirlo (Juventus), Marchisio (Juventus), Giaccherini (Juventus), De Rossi (Roma), Motta (Paris Saint-Germain), Nocerino (AC Milan), Montolivo (Fiorentina), Diamanti (Bologna). Strikers: Cassano (AC Milan), Balotelli (Manchester City), Giovinco (Parma), Di Natale (Udinese), Destro (Siena), Borini (Roma).
