Stoke have handed injury-plagued Mamady Sidibe a lifeline by offering him a new one-year contract.
The 32-year-old's career was placed in serious jeopardy after he dislocated his left knee during a reserve game last October against Port Vale.
It was another blow for the former Mali international who has not made a first-team appearance for the last two years due to his injuries.
However, boosted by the news of his new deal, the Potters marksman is hoping to be fit for pre-season in seven weeks' time.
Contract
"I have just talked to the club and they have offered me another year to get me fit again," Sidibe told
The Sentinel.
"That is very good for me and I thank the club, the chairman, the manager, everybody.
"Without the contract, it would be very difficult for me, especially after being here for seven years."
There had been fears Sidibe would have to retire from the game as his present deal was set to expire this summer, and doubts lingered about his ability to return from another setback.
Retire
However, Tony Pulis is remaining loyal to the towering striker who was instrumental in the club gaining promotion to the Premier League in 2008, but Sidibe admits he is unsure whether he will regain full fitness.
He added: "Without the club helping me, I think I would [have] completely stopped. Yes, probably I would retire.
"But Stoke has always treated me well and it's a big boost to know I am going to be here next year.
"Probably people don't expect me to be playing for the team, but I will give my best and only God knows what will happen."
