Striker feels team-mate still has a role to play at Aston Villa

Gabriel Agbonlahor is hoping Emile Heskey will stay at Aston Villa after insisting his fellow striker still has a role to play at the club. Heskey is out of contract at the end of the season and Villa assistant manager Peter Grant has suggested any talks are on hold until the summer. The former England international has been linked with a return to Leicester City, but Agbonlahor is keen for the 34-year-old to still be at Villa Park next season. "I would like Emile to stay," said Agbonlahor. "I think everyone would. He has great experience and still has great qualities.

Dedicated

"It's not my decision but I would definitely like Emile to stay. He has done a great job when he has come in. "Emile is really dedicated with the way he trains and is respected for what he has done in the game and we are still learning off him. "Do I think he will stay? It's hard to say. We'll just have to wait and see." Heskey was restored to Villa's starting line-up for last weekend's Premier League clash at Arsenal and, with Darren Bent sidelined for the rest of the season, he is likely to be involved further in the coming weeks. But Villa boss Alex McLeish has admitted he still has to bring down the wage bill and Heskey is believed to be one of the club's highest earners.
