Defender calls for technology in light of Hill 'goal' in victory over QPR

Bolton defender Sam Ricketts is backing the introduction of goal-line technology for the next Premier League season. The main talking point in The Trotters' 2-1 victory over Queens Park Rangers on Saturday was the officials' failure to award QPR a goal in the 19th minute despite Clint Hill's header clearly crossing the line. Ricketts thinks the match officials need goal-line technology to be able to make such decisions in a fast-paced modern game. "I think it needs to be introduced," he said.

"Football's come down to such fine margins now. It would be an instant decision, you're not asking for replays. "It's hard for officials to keep up, the game's getting quicker each year. It's a split-second thing for referees and linesmen to make these decisions." However, the Wales international believes his side deserve some good luck after a run of tough games. He added: "From our point of view, we'd be hugely disappointed if that had gone against us. But we've been unlucky this season so it was nice for it to turn around."
