Midfielder plays 45 minutes for the Watford reserves

Stephen McGinn took a massive step towards returning to the Watford first team after coming through his test in the reserves unscathed. The former St Mirren man has been sidelined for a year after suffering a serious knee injury at Doncaster. But he made his long-awaited return with 45 minutes against Southampton on Tuesday night to the delight of first team coach Tony Loughlan. "There were one or two interesting things for us to take in," said Loughlan. "But above everything else it was fantastic to see Stephen out there involved. "He's been joining in with the first team training regularly enough for the medical team to feel he was ready for this and it appears to have gone really well for him."
