Defender admits he needed loan switch away from Anfield

Danny Wilson admits he had no mixed emotions over missing Liverpool's Carling Cup final success over Cardiff. The Scotland defender is currently on loan at Blackpool after finding himself well down the pecking order at Anfield. Wilson insists he has no regrets about joining Blackpool instead of playing a bit-part role in Liverpool's first trophy success in six years.

Springboard

"I probably would not have played if I was there, so there was no mixed emotions for me," insisted Wilson. "I was delighted for the boys to get the trophy. "They deserved it for the way we have played in the Carling Cup. That could be a springboard for Liverpool to go forward because they want to get higher up the league. "They have also qualified for the Europa League having won the cup but the Champions League would be massive for Liverpool and we just need to keep going until we get that." Former Rangers ace Wilson is enjoying his stint at Blackpool and admits he was 'going stale' at Liverpool on the sidelines. "The timing was right to get away on loan. I was going stale, kicking my heels at Liverpool. "As a footballer, there's nothing worse than getting up on a Saturday and knowing you are not going to be involved. "I was a bit selfish. I wanted to go and play games. If that eventually benefits me with Liverpool in the future, great. "But I'm at an age when I need to play and I had only played one game for Liverpool since the start of the season."
