PFA chief declares support as Scottish giants face administration

PFA Scotland chief executive Fraser Wishart has vowed to support Rangers owner Craig Whyte during the club's financial plight. Wishart has vowed to help the club and players through their difficulties following Monday's announcement that the club had served notice of their intention to enter administration. Whyte admitted the club could be faced with a £75million bill should they lose their ongoing tax tribunal battle with HM Revenue & Customs. Despite the Professional Footballers Association's main focus being the protection of players, Wishart is eager to work alongside Gers to ensure there are no redundancies made and the club can make a full recovery.

Ramifications

"There has been all sorts of finger-pointing and ramifications," the former Rangers defender told Sky Sports News. "For me it's about working with the players and the club. "I'm hoping to meet with the owner and we can possibly work with the club and ensure there's a good enough team on the football park." The dispute with HMRC is in regard to the use of employee benefits trusts, which had been in place for a decade when Whyte bought the club last May from Sir David Murray, but Wishart is interested in simply keeping the club alive.
Survival
"I'm not party to the intimate details," he added. "Our role is to look after our members. "But at the same time we also aim to help clubs survive. We have worked with many clubs and players are flexible. "They all love Scottish football and love playing for Rangers. They are all aware they need to be professional at this time and I'm sure they will."
