FA will not punish Spurs defender as Probert saw tackle

Tottenham defender Benoit Assou-Ekotto will face no action over the challenge which forced Franco Di Santo out of Wednesday's win over Wigan. Spurs were leading 3-0 in the 72nd minute when the Cameroon international full-back caught the Argentine, an incident which left the striker with a large cut on his shin. The Football Association will not punish Assou-Ekotto retrospectively as Probert spotted the tackle and took no action at the time. Latics boss Roberto Martinez was fuming following the incident and stated the defender should have been sent off after the full-time whistle. "We were very fortunate because Franco escaped the tackle with a minor injury and I've seen broken legs from (tackles like) that," stated Martinez.
