Aston Villa boss Alex McLeish is expecting 'big things' from summer recruit Charles N'Zogbia for the remainder of the season and beyond.

McLeish hoping winger can show his goal-scoring prowess

Aston Villa manager Alex McLeish is expecting 'big things' from summer recruit Charles N'Zogbia for the remainder of the season and beyond. The Midlands side bought the French winger from Wigan Athletic for a reported £9.5million in July, although the 25-year-old has yet to score in 18 Premier League appearances. McLeish was delighted with N'Zogbia's display in Villa's 3-1 win at Chelsea on New Year's Eve and he hopes that impressive performance can now be replicated. The former Birmingham City boss knows the winger is capable of much more having been a key performer during his time at the DW Stadium and McLeish now wants to see his goalscoring prowess.

Big things

"We are looking for big things from Charles in a Villa shirt for this season and beyond," stated McLeish. "In the Chelsea game he was tremendous; running at their back four and for Stephen Ireland's equaliser and in general he played a good team game as well as his attacking skills. "I've not sat him down and asked him but he knows the standards that are expected. He's aware the Villa fans are looking for 9/10 and 10/10 from the players that make the difference and Charles is one of those who can make a difference. "I'm sure he is very determined as an individual to make his mark at Aston Villa. "Charles is capable of greater things; there is no doubt about that. I am sure he will show everybody at this club what he can do. "Goals and assists were his trademark at Wigan and at Newcastle and that should be evidence for Charles that he has that in his locker."
