Younger brother of England ace Wayne leaves New York behind

John Rooney, the younger brother of England striker Wayne, has signed for Orlando City in the third tier of football in the United States after being released by New York Red Bulls. The 21-year-old midfielder, formerly of Macclesfield Town, was unable to secure regular first-team football with the New York side and has joined up with former Everton favourite Adrian Heath - who is head coach of the Lions. The deal for Rooney, who started at Everton's youth academy at the age of six, is subject to approval from the United States Soccer Federation, but Heath is already looking forward to linking up with his fellow Englishman. "I've known John for a long time," said the Orlando boss. "From the early days in England. We're delighted to have him. "He'll be a really good piece for us. He can play multiple positions in the midfield, which is a very good thing for us."
