Foxes boss says club have made best offer for Doncaster striker

Nigel Pearson has not shut the door on a deal for Billy Sharp, but admits Leicester City have already put their 'best offer' to the Doncaster Rovers striker. Doncaster accepted a bid from Leicester earlier this month and Sharp subsequently held talks regarding a move to the King Power Stadium. Rovers boss Dean Saunders claimed over the weekend that Sharp was not intending to join Leicester and would stay with Doncaster for the rest of the season. Pearson has not completely given up hope of signing the in-demand forward as the Leicester manager targets improvements to his squad before the transfer window closes.

Team building

"We have made the best offer we can make," said Pearson in the Leicester Mercury. "The door is not shut but you can only go so far. "As a club we have probably been guilty of going overboard in terms of spending on certain players so far. "As far as I am concerned, it is about building a team. It is not collecting players. I don't intend to do that. "We have done quite a bit of trimming down already in terms of dispensing with players. Now it is time to add to what we have got and complement it. But also we have to get more out of what we have already got here."
