Andre-Pierre Gignac: Marseille striker has been linked with a return to Fulham but Martin Jol has played down a bid
Fulham boss Martin Jol has played down speculation he will make a renewed bid to sign Marseille striker Andre-Pierre Gignac on loan in the transfer window.
Gignac was close to moving to Craven Cottage before the summer deadline and had been in England discussing a deal.
However, Marseille pulled out of the agreement after failing to bring in a replacement for Gignac and the France international has subsequently endured a difficult season at Stade Velodrome.
The 26-year-old has struggled to establish himself in Didier Deschamps' starting line-up and has recently been sidelined by injury.
There have been rumours of a fresh loan bid from Fulham, but Jol feels Gignac is still wanted by Marseille and is also concerned about the player's fitness.
"We were attracted last summer, but Deschamps wanted to keep him," Jol told L'Equipe.
"Nowadays, nothing has changed. Anyway, the player is injured and I never sign injured players."
Reports in France claim Gignac's agent is due to meet with Marseille officials on Tuesday to discuss the player's situation at the club.
