Swindon have offer accepted for Charlton striker

Skysports.com understands Swindon Town striker Leon Clarke is set to join Charlton Athletic as part of a swap deal involving Paul Benson. Swindon tried to sign Benson on loan before the November deadline, but were unable to process the paperwork in time for the deal to be completed. Benson, who was a target for Bradford City earlier in the season, is now poised to join the Robins when the transfer window reopens after a bid was accepted. Robins boss Paolo Di Canio told the Swindon Advertiser: "He spent a few days with us and the fact that he wants to join us again means that he is the target. "We are in a good position with the situation." The deal will also see Swindon forward Clarke head in the opposite direction after impressing during a recent loan spell at Chesterfield. Clarke has no future at the County Ground after a bust-up with Di Canio in the early weeks of the campaign and he was wanted back by the Spireites. He was also attracting interest from several other clubs, but is now poised to link up with League One leaders Charlton.
