Caretaker boss understood to have been offered deal

Skysports.com understands that Chris Beech has been offered the Rochdale manager's job until the end of the season. Beech was given the job on a temporary basis on Monday after Steve Eyre and his assistant Frank Bunn were relieved of their duties. Eyre, 39, was named as Keith Hill's successor after spending 21 years in Manchester City's youth set-up, where Bunn has also earned glowing reports in recent years. However, the pair's move into league management did not work out as well as Dale had hoped, with Eyre overseeing just four wins in 21 league games, leaving Dale third-bottom in League One after Saturday's 0-0 draw at home to Yeovil.

Youth role

Beech has been Dale's youth-team manager since 2007, and he led the Dale youngsters to last season's north west league title in the Football League Youth Alliance. It was thought Beech would be a short-term appointment, with the Dale board deciding upon Eyre's permanent successor as soon as possible. But it is now understood the former midfielder has been installed at least until the summer. As a player, the 37-year-old began his career with hometown club Blackpool and had spells with Hartlepool and Huddersfield before making 32 league appearances for Dale between 2002 and 2004.
