Whites chairman tells boss he must deliver results or face axe

Leeds chairman Ken Bates has warned Simon Grayson that he must deliver promotion or face the threat of losing his job. Grayson celebrates his three-year anniversary in the Elland Road hot-seat on Friday, but he cannot afford to start getting complacent. Having guided Leeds back into the Championship and to a seventh-place finish last term, expectations have risen around the West Yorkshire club. A return to the Premier League is demanded in the not too distant future, with a current standing inside the play-offs suggesting that this could be the year that the Whites re-join the elite. They have, however, wobbled on home soil of late, winning only one of their last six fixtures in front of their own supporters. Such a run has offered cause for concern, and Bates has made it clear to Grayson that failure to move the club forward will not be tolerated.

Ultimate challenge

"He stands and falls by his results," said Bates. "Obviously, if he does not deliver, he knows that his job is on the line and that applies to all managers. "Simon and his backroom staff don't have a bad record. "This year is the ultimate challenge for him, his staff and, just as importantly, the players. "For those whose ambition is to play in the Premier League, well... get us there!"
