New signing keen to prove he deserves captain's responsibility

Recent signing El Hadji Diouf admits he was surprised to be named captain for Doncaster Rovers' draw with Watford at the weekend. With regular captain George Friend out due to a foot injury, Senegal attacker Diouf was handed the armband for the 0-0 stalemate with Watford. Diouf has previous captaincy experience and he is determined to prove to Rovers boss Dean Saunders that he is worthy of the role. "It was a surprise and I didn't know before the game," Diouf told the Yorkshire Post. "I was surprised when the gaffer told me but it shows anything can happen in football. "I was captain for a time at Bolton Wanderers and for Senegal and the most important thing is what you show on the pitch and outside the pitch. "The gaffer wanted to give me that responsibility and now I have to show him that I deserve it."
