City defender keen to make up for Munich setback

Joleon Lescott is looking forward to a must-win game against Villarreal in the Champions League on Wednesday despite revealing his disappointment at being left out against Bayern Munich. Lescott believes his side have learned valuable lessons from their 2-0 defeat against Bayern in their first away tie in the Champions League in September. The defender has been a regular in Roberto Mancini's plans this season but watched from the bench as City went down to a convincing display in the Allianz Arena. However, Lescott was back in the starting XI against Villarreal last month and is expected to start in the reverse fixture in Spain this week.

Important

"I was disappointed not to play but you have to respect the manager's decision," Lescott said. "I was on the bench but it was a disappointing night as we had been doing well in the league up until that point. "The Champions League is massive for the club so we know how important it is "We had a good result in our first Champions League game against Napoli, and there were positives we could take from the Bayern game. We took them into the game against Villarreal at home - although we left it late in that one! "You always want to put teams to bed early doors - it's just that it's not always possible in the Champions League."
