Winger backing Stevenage team-mate to play at a higher level

Stevenage winger Robin Shroot insists that team-mate Lawrie Wilson is more than capable of playing at a higher level. Former Sheffield Wednesday youngster Wilson has been in impressive form for Stevenage as the club adapt to life in League One. His performances at Broadhall Way have not gone unnoticed, with several Championship clubs, including Leeds, reportedly monitoring the 24-year-old's progress. However, Shroot, who joined from Birmingham City over the summer, does not believe that the utility man will be taking anything for granted just yet.

Potential

"Lawrie is a player with lots of potential and he is a great player to play alongside because he hugs the touchline and is extremely quick," Shroot told skysports.com. "Obviously, it is up to him to continue performing and show the manager that he is worthy of a place in the team every week because there are others breathing down his neck. "Once that happens then anything can happen for him, but I'm sure that he won't be getting carried away by the recent reports." With 13 points from their opening 11 games, Stevenage have made the step up from League Two look relatively easy, but Shroot insists that there is more to come. He added: "You have to try and maintain momentum as much as you can throughout the course of a season and that can be the difference between nicking a 1-0 when things aren't going your way and ending with a draw or defeat. "You look forward to every game and aim to get maximum points from every game you play in, but that only comes from putting the hard work in and showing that desire to win. "We need to establish ourselves in this division and we've not done too bad so far, but we know that there are things we can improve on."
