Midfielder happy to hear of Arsenal interest

Yoann Gourcuff has told skysports.com that he was flattered to hear that Arsene Wenger tried to sign him on the eve of the transfer deadline. Arsenal made a number of buys on and around deadline day, and they also made plenty of enquiries. One of their approaches was for France international Gourcuff, but Lyon confirmed that they snubbed the bid for their midfielder. Gourcuff now admits he was pleased to hear that Arsenal did make a move, telling skysports.com: "I am flattered by the interest shown by Arsene Wenger. "He is one of the top coaches in the world, he loves technical players so I am very, very happy to know that he was interested in me." Gourcuff is yet to play this season due to an ankle injury, but he is soon hoping to make his comeback. "Now I am pushing to come back stronger for Lyon," he added.
