Wigan have received a welcome boost with the news defender Steve Gohouri has returned to training.

Experienced defender not far away from selection

Wigan have received a welcome boost with the news defender Steve Gohouri has returned to training. The experienced 28-year-old injured his calf in the opening game of the season against Norwich and has since not featured. But manager Roberto Martinez revealed the Ivorian returned to training this week, although he is not expected to come into contention for the Premier League clash against Tottenham at the DW Stadium on Saturday. The Latics' boss is already without striker Hugo Rodallega, who damaged knee ligaments during the defeat at Everton at the weekend. He joined defender Antolin Alcaraz (thigh) and Emmerson Boyce (back) on the long-term injured list. Martinez said: "Steve Gohouri trained on Monday so that's better news for us. He's not far away from being available for selection again."
