Roy Hodgson has once again moved to play down rumours regarding the future of West Brom's star striker Peter Odemwingie.

Baggies boss insists striker is not for sale

Roy Hodgson has once again moved to play down rumours regarding the future of West Brom's star striker Peter Odemwingie. Reports on Sunday suggested that Wigan are the latest side to show an interest in the Nigeria international. They are said to have lodged a £1.5million bid for a man who shone on his debut season in England last year. West Brom, though, have spent the summer fending off rumours and have no plans to alter their stance now. They are pressing on with contract extension talks and are adamant that their top scorer from 2010/11 is not for sale.

Ludicrous

Hodgson is growing increasingly frustrated at having to deal with the constant speculation and insists the money being talked about at present is laughable. "Peter is not for sale," he said after watching his side slip to an agonising 2-1 defeat to reigning Premier League champions Manchester United. "If you had seen the size of the bid, you would probably have been laughing all the way out of here. "I don't understand teams to put in bids which are so obviously ludicrously far away from what the player's value is. "I suppose I could put in a bid for Wayne Rooney. Alex would laugh that out of existence just as we laughed their bid out of existence."
