Toffees snub £10million bid for Jagielka

Skysports.com understands Everton have rejected a bid from Arsenal for Phil Jagielka. Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has held a long-term interest in Jagielka and he is thought to have firmed up the interest with a bid in the region of £10million. The Gunners tried to sign Jagielka last summer but were unable to prise the former Sheffield United man away from Goodison Park Wenger has made a new central defender one of his top priorities this summer and Jagielka is thought to be on his wanted list along with Birmingham's Scott Dann. The Frenchman missed out on Blackburn's Phil Jones to Manchester United and he is determined to bring in a new central defender before the close of the transfer window. Jagielka only signed a new four-year contract last March and Everton value the England significantly higher than the £10million offer made by Arsenal. Everton are reluctant to lose the 28-year-old, but they could find it hard to reject a sizeable offer as David Moyes looks to raise funds for new signings to strengthen other areas of his squad. It remains to be seen if Wenger will come back in with an improved bid for Jagielka or switch his attentions elsewhere as he looks to bolster his defensive options
