Defender joins from Preston on three-year deal

Leicester have swooped to sign defender Sean St Ledger from Preston for an undisclosed fee. St Ledger had been linked with a number of other clubs following Preston's relegation from the Championship but it is the Foxes who have won the chase for his signature. He has agreed a three-year deal at the Walkers Stadium to become manager Sven Goran Eriksson's fourth signing of the summer. Lee Peltier, Neil Danns and Kasper Schmeichel have already been recruited and Eriksson is thrilled to have snapped up another proven Championship performer.

Fits the profile

"I am very pleased that Sean will be joining us. He expressed a real desire to play for Leicester City and I believe that he will have a positive impact here at the club," Eriksson told Leicester's official website. "Sean is a very good defender and has proven this in league football, but also on the international stage for the Republic of Ireland. "He fits the profile of hungry players, eager to impress and work hard for their place. "He is strong and is a reliable defender. I am certain that alongside our other new signings, he will help to improve our team."
