Experienced forward set to sign for top flight newcomers

Former France international Sidney Govou is on the brink of signing for Ligue 1 new boys Evian-Thonon-Gaillard. The 31-year-old forward is in the process of negotiating his release from Greek outfit Panathinaikos. Once he secures free agent status, he will then be able to put pen to paper on a contract at Evian. "It is 90 per cent certain that he will sign," Govou's agent Frederic Guerra told L'Equipe. "Not everything has been sorted just yet, so we have to remain cautious."

Desire

Evian chairman Patrick Trotignon is hoping an agreement can be pushed through without any problems, with Govou having expressed a strong desire to return to his homeland. "He has to end his contract with Panathinaikos first," said Trotignon. "But we are on the right path. Sidney has shown a desire to come here." Meanwhile, reports in France suggest Evian are also looking to snap up experienced defender Jonathan Zebina from Italian outfit Brescia.
