Skysports.com understands Rangers have made a formal approach for Dundee United star striker David Goodwillie.
The 22-year-old has been linked with a number of clubs, including some from the English Premier League, after an excellent campaign in 2010/11.
Goodwillie scored 19 goals last season and in March signed a contract extension with United that lasts until 2014.
United are therefore under no pressure to allow the new Scotland international to leave.
But SPL champions Rangers are understood to have made enquiries as new boss Ally McCoist sets about attempting to make improvements to his squad.
