Derby boss Nigel Clough has told centre-back Jake Buxton to concentrate on getting fit for next season.
The 26-year-old has endured a year-long injury nightmare, starting with a groin problem that required surgery and forced him to miss the final 10 games of the last campaign.
This campaign has been ruined by niggling groin, stomach and back injuries, with a minor operation required on his back earlier this term.
Buxton's one appearance for the first team during 2010/11 was as a late substitute in the win against Sheffield United at Bramall Lane when he came off the bench after 80 minutes.
Too early
"Jake has come back too early and tried to play with a sore groin," manager Nigel Clough told the
Derby Telegraph.
"He wants to show people what he can do and that is why he probably came back too early. He is that sort of character. He is busting a gut to get out there.
"We have reached the stage with him where he was training and he was struggling with the problem before, during and afterwards so we have told him to leave it now for four or five weeks, or whatever.
"We just want Jake to get it right and give himself the best chance of being fit for next season."
