Charlie Adam felt Sunday's game against Brazil would stand Scotland in good stead for the future despite the disappointing result.
Craig Levein's men were beaten 2-0 at the Emirates Stadium as teenage sensation Neymar scored both goals to secure a deserved victory for the five-time world champions.
Blackpool midfielder Adam nevertheless insisted afterwards that the match was a worthwhile exercise ahead of Scotland's last three Euro 2012 qualifiers in September and October, the Spain game in particular.
"It was a valuable experience for us," said Adam, whose next assignment for his country is set to be May's Carling Nations Cup matches against Wales and the Republic of Ireland.
"It'll stand us in good stead for the qualifiers and the two games we've got at the end of the season."
Comparing Brazil to Spain, he added: "They've got some of the best players in the world, like Spain.
"It's great to be part of it, playing against Spain and Brazil. They don't come along very often.
New position
"But the results in the past couple of games have been good apart from today and we'll learn from it.
"It's one of these games where you can't be overawed and, at times, I thought we did okay."
Scotland were penned in for most of the first half, leaving lone striker Kenny Miller completely isolated, but Adam stressed it was not a deliberate ploy.
"Teams like that make you do that," he said. "You've got to be wary in behind."
Adam repeatedly tried to relieve the pressure with long balls from what was an unfamiliar deep-lying midfield position, but it proved futile.
"I enjoy playing there but sometimes I like to get further up the pitch and try to get efforts on goal," said Adam, who was let off the leash by manager Levein after the interval.
"We had to try to get up the pitch a wee bit more. Fortunately enough, I did that."
Injury scare
Adam also played down concerns over his fitness after picking up a knock to his knee in the second half.
The 25-year-old is confident of being fit for Blackpool's crucial Premier League game at Fulham next Sunday.
"I just got a whack on it as I went to make a tackle," he said.
"We clashed knees but I'll be all right and hopefully be ready for the weekend."
