Former Norwich keeper eager to make a speedy return from injury

Blackpool goalkeeper Matt Gilks has suffered a fresh injury setback in his comeback game for the reserves against Chelsea. Gilks was keen to prove his fitness ahead of the Tangerines' important game against Blackburn on Saturday. But he pulled his calf after just 14 minutes into the match and will now miss the relegation six-pointer against Blackburn. Gilks was playing his first game since November when he broke his kneecap against West Ham, having returned to training two weeks ago.

Setback

However, despite this setback, he expects to be back between the sticks for Blackpool in the not too distant future. "It was a blow not to make it through the full 90 minutes but it isn't a recurrence of the knee injury or anything like that - it's just a slight strain," he told the Blackpool Gazette. "It felt a bit tight before the game, probably because I've been doing so much rehabilitation work in the gym and on the training ground and working so hard. "It got worse as the game started and I came off as a precaution. It's nothing serious, only a minor setback, and hopefully I'll be back soon."
