United looking elsewhere

Sheffield United have confirmed they will not be signing Northern Ireland international Roy Carroll. The 33-year-old, who is a free agent after leaving Danish club OB, has been training with the Blades. They are looking for goalkeeping cover, with Richard Wright still sidelined, but despite their issues - Micky Adams has decided against signing Carroll. He played for United's reserves on Wednesday and was sent off, but Adams insists this had no bearing on the decision. "Roy had a couple of days training with us before the game but we are not pursuing it," said Adams. "We are looking for someone who can provide competition straight away and who could drop into the team if needs be. "We don't see that in him at the moment because he really needs a pre-season or maybe six weeks of training to get back to that level. "Richard Wright has suffered another setback this week and is unlikely to be back within the next couple of weeks at least. I have always not wanted to use money if Richard was nearly available but we are probably past that point now."
