Striker ahead of schedule in fitness recovery

Skysports.com understands Fraizer Campbell has pencilled in Liverpool's game next month in which to make his comeback - three weeks ahead of schedule. The 23-year-old sustained a cruciate ligament injury in August against Manchester City after starring in pre-season for the Black Cats. Campbell, however, has left club medics speechless as he devours his rehabilitation programme with relative ease and is set to return almost a month earlier than expected. However, the medical team are mindful that any type of setback could delay his first-team return and they are trying to find ways to rein in his enthusiasm. The former England Under 21 international is due to finish his rehabilitation by the end of the month and will return to full training with the first team at the start of March. Steve Bruce will be delighted with his return as it will alleviate some of his concerns in attack as he has seen his options depleted by the sale of Darren Bent and the knee injury to Danny Welbeck. Campbell is now targeting the visit of Liverpool on 20th March to the Stadium of Light in which to make his return.
