The full-back ended an unhappy six-month stint at Liverpool on deadline day by signing for Forest on loan for the rest of the season.

He had been wanted back at former club Fulham after failing to win over the Liverpool fans during his 18 appearances for the Reds.

However, the 29-year-old eventually agreed a deal with Forest and is keen to be playing first-team football after failing to feature for Liverpool since Kenny Dalglish replaced Roy Hodgson as manager.

Konchesky told Forest's official website: "There was talk of me going back to Fulham and it didn't happen.

"I could have sat at Liverpool and just done nothing but I want to play football. I wanted to come to a team that was fighting for promotion.

"They play good football here and I want to be part of it and trying to get the team in the Premier League."

Big change

Admitting his dream move to Liverpool had not worked out, he added: "It was a tough start and then the manager that took me there got the sack and it was a big change.

"But that's part of life, I had to go to try it, it hasn't worked out, I want to get my football back on track, and I've been given an opportunity at Nottingham Forest."

Asked if manager Billy Davies needed to convince him to drop down to the Championship, Konchesky said: "No, not really. Because I want to play football and he's going to give me a chance to play."
