Lions snap up experienced defender

Darren Purse has been snapped up by Millwall following his release by Sheffield Wednesday. The experienced centre-half parted company with the Owls on Thursday, but has not had to wait long to find a new club. His boyhood heroes Millwall have opted to hand the 33-year-old a deal until the end of the season, with Kenny Jackett delighted to have snapped up a player of Purse's calibre. "Darren brings great experience to the squad and strengthens us in the central defensive area where we are struggling at the moment," Jackett told the club's official website. "He's a Millwall fan and I'm sure he will relish the opportunity to play for this club." The Lions become the seventh club of Purse's career, with the defender having previously turned out for Leyton Orient, Oxford United, Birmingham, West Brom, Cardiff and Wednesday. He is a player who can boast considerable Premier League experience and will provide useful cover for Jackett as he attempts to deal with a defensive injury crisis.
