Irvine keen on Foxes stopper

Sheffield Wednesday are closing in on the signing of Leicester defender Michael Morrison, skysports.com understands. Owls boss Alan Irvine is keen to bolster his defensive options and has targeted a move for Morrison when the transfer window reopens next month. Morrison has struggled to hold down a regular place in the Leicester side this season under Sven Goran Eriksson, making just eight appearances in the Championship. The 22-year-old joined Leicester from Cambridge in 2008 after previously having trials with Chelsea and Newcastle before he linked up with the Foxes. Eriksson is believed to be willing to sell Morrison to free up space in his squad and raise funds for his own signings next month. Irvine has already made an enquiry for Preston defender Sean St Ledger and he is hoping to bring Morrison to Hillsborough as the Owls look to mount a bid for promotion back to the Championship.
