Skysports.com understands West Brom could rival Blackpool for the signature of loan star Luke Varney.
Varney is currently on a season-long loan at Blackpool from Derby after finding himself out of the picture at Pride Park.
The 27-year-old has been a revelation since his move to Bloomfield Road, scoring four goals including Saturday's stunning effort against Wolves.
Blackpool claimed they had a deal in place to sign Varney for £250,000 in January, but Derby moved to clarify that there was no clause in the loan deal which allows the Seasiders exclusive access to sign the player.
The news has alerted a number of clubs to Varney's possible availability with West Brom thought to be keeping tabs on the attacker's situation.
Varney impressed against West Brom in Blackpool's win against the Baggies earlier this month and Roberto Di Matteo is thought to be weighing up a move for the versatile forward.
