Polish striker set to go under the knife for the second time

Auxerre striker Ireneusz Jelen has been informed that he will require a second operation on his knee. The Poland international went under the knife over the summer in the hope that surgery would bring about an end to the niggling issue. However, he is still being troubled by the knee and is set to return to his homeland for a further medical procedure. "Jelen has a swollen knee and he'll have an operation on Monday in Poland, because we don't really know what he has," said Auxerre coach Jean Fernandez. "After the first operation in June there was a recovery procedure that was perhaps not respected, which explains this setback." Jelen's last appearance came as a second-half substitute in Auxerre's 1-0 defeat to Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League back in September. Fernandez has revealed that he expects the 29-year-old to be sidelined for a further two months.
