Scunthorpe manager Ian Baraclough is hoping to extend the loan of Kevin McDonald for another month.

Baraclough impressed by midfielder's display against Cardiff

Scunthorpe United manager Ian Baraclough is hoping to extend the loan of Burnley midfielder Kevin McDonald for another month. McDonald joined the Iron in mid-October, but has seen his impact at Glanford Park delayed due to a back injury. He started his first game for the club in Saturday's 4-2 home defeat by Championship leaders Cardiff City and found his way onto the scoresheet. The 22-year-old's initial loan is due to expire this week, but Baraclough will speak to his Burnley counterpart Brian Laws regarding an extension.

Good qualities

"Kevin McDonald hasn't been fit enough to start a game up to now, but I felt he and Michael O'Connor imposed themselves in midfield," Baraclough told the club's official website. "I'd like to extend his loan. He's got good qualities and if fully fit he will be a fantastic player. "I will speak to Kevin and Brian. He knows he has a chance of playing games here while he might not at Burnley. "I'll see what Brian says, but hopefully we can keep him for another month."
