Skysports.com understands Walsall are lining up a move for former Huddersfield Town defender Andy Butler.
Butler is available on a free transfer after leaving the Terriers at the end of last season.
The 27-year-old has been training recently at Rochdale and Butler is believed to have impressed at Spotland.
A number of clubs have expressed an interest in signing Butler, but Walsall are set to win the chase for his services.
Saddlers boss Chris Hutchings is keen to bolster his squad and he is ready to offer Butler a deal until the end of the season.
